Too Little, Too Late
It's been about 10 months since last year's presidential election and I wonder how many people would change their vote now?
This isn't just a matter of Hurricane Katrina, it's about a lack of strong leadership from the entire administration since the events of 9/11 unfolded. It's one thing to be blindly patriotic, it's another thing to be American. Americans are given the freedom to question and critique things. Freedoms that should not be left behind in war time or not. This country was based upon the ideals of being free to openly question things our government does, because the people that formed this land had no voice in their own government. Ever heard of taxation without representation?
It's sad that thousands of people had to die just so people could realize what a poor situation we're in. The disparity between the high class and the low class is growing, while the middle class slowly disappears. I'm not saying everyone without a job just can't find a job, I'm sure there are some that take advanatage of the system and there should be a way to control that. The way to govern is to not go strictly along the lines of your party...it is to go with what would be best for the people of America. Prejudice and bigotry have no place in this country and those groups that condone it should be eliminated if President Bush was serious about terrorism. Not just al qaeda but groups like the KKK. If terrorism is psychological and about killing things for a political agenda then I see no difference between the two organizations.
This will soon be the only country in the world where there will be no majority of ethnicity, religion, etc. That is a major accomplishment. But what good will it be if we hold onto our backwards views, and bigoted ideas. America truly is a grand experiment and idea, it's up to us to keep that going.
I know what you're saying...Ryan's a bleeding heart liberal! No, I'm an Independent and I'm an American who cares about where he lives and where his (hopefully) children will live one day. Why would I want to bring kids into a world where there is so much violence and a draining of hope. Americans should challenge themselves everyday to be a better person, do something kind for any person, and you would be amazed at how effective it can be. We don't have to stick our head in the sand and pretend it doesn't involve us, it does, because we're all somehow interconnected on this mad, mad world.
I do know one thing, if the election was this year, there would be no fooling the people, and those fanatical bible lovers would be no match for the real soul of America.
Bush Approval Rating: 39%
People Who Believe America is on the Wrong Track: 65%
