Open Apology To The World
As an American that has been around and paid some attention to events the past few years, I am obliged to offer an olive branch to the rest of the world. I'm sorry for what our leaders have done to you since September 11th. As Americans we were a very hurt and scared people after the attacks on our homeland. After all, America hasn't been attacked on the mainland from a foreign entity since the War of 1812. We didn't know how to react and while we griefed, we rallied behind our Commander in Chief.
That's what you do in a time like that, we rally and become a stronger unit. The world offered condolences and support and we were gracious. We went through proper channels in going after Al Qaeda leadership in Afghanistan. We respected others' laws and the world community. The world understood that we should hunt down those responsible for these acts and bring them to justice, not just for the well being of America, but for the well being of the world. After awhile, it was apparent to some that our government was out to swell any criticism about the leadership by making divisive statements such as "with us or against us". The did all of this while draping themselves in a flag to seem patriotic. I don't know if they started leading our country down another path on purpose, or because they believe it is the right path, but it is wrong.
We have abandoned a large amount of our allies, forgone the UN, a world court, and so on and so on. We became an agressor for the first time in my lifetime. Instead of reacting with a consensus of the world, we decided to pre-emptively invade a country without consent of the UN. Now we are slowly becoming sucked into a possible civil war. We are bearing a large expense of lives and credibility. Instead of keeping the world united while pursuing terrorism after September 11th, we have driven it apart.
I wanted to let everyone know that help is on its way, hopefully. Slowly the tide is turning against Bush, and people have begun questioning this administration's tactics. Hopefully this push is strong enough for a regime change in America, but if not, I will know that I have tried. America is still feeling the effects of September 11th and Bush's campaign feeds on that fear. I wish I could say that all Americans are in agreement about the state of our country, but we are split down the middle. I think most of the people are still fooled by Bush and not radically right. They are simply scared. Scared that what happened in 2001 will happen again, scared that changing leaders in a time of war could change the course of our war on terrorism, scared of the ever shrinking world. Americans are not fools, we will be back. We will become respected instead of feared once again. We will be the beacon and not a burden. Just hang on, hope is coming.
